10-year-old David Wise from New York City: “I write, produce and
direct my own movies”
Young David
was mentored by several experimental filmmakers, and exhibited a collection of
his own animated work, called “Short Circuit” (1963) when he was eight years
old. As an adult, Wise would make a name
for himself as a prolific writer, primarily for science fiction and fantasy
based animated TV series. His credits
include Star Trek: The Animated Series, He-Man
and the Masters of the Universe, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,
Batman: The Animated Series and many other projects.
Mrs. Mary Hoglun from Columbus, Ohio: “My husband is a dentist…Our
son is a dentist…My sister is a dentist…Her husband is a dentist…And I’m a
dentist too”
All but the
son appear on stage afterwards.
Special guest
Durward Kirby brings photographs from past episodes, and challenges the panel
to remember what they were doing in them.
They include Jayne getting a typhoid shot in 1958 (
E293
), Bill using a
hula hoop in 1958 (E301) Bess giving a man a shave in 1960 (
E400
) and Henry
dancing a ballet in 1961 (E417). A fifth
picture shows Henry at the panel desk not wearing pants, and no one, not even
the staff, is exactly sure of the context.
Kirby is the co-host of Candid
Camera (1960-1967) with show creator Allen Funt, a role he held for five of
this version’s seven seasons. Arthur
Godfrey co-hosted the first season, and Bess would co-host the final year.
