587     December 28, 1964 (Taped December 14)
Betsy, Bill, Bess, Henry

Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Armstrong from Lewis, Iowa have their six children backstage: “This is the first time all our children…have been in the same place at the same time”
Semi-wacky childbirth.  The Armstrongs have adult children who didn’t live at home when the youngest was born. Several have moved far from the family home (two live in California) and despite multiple efforts, the entire clan had not been able to gather at one time until this holiday season.

Special guest Durward Kirby grades the panel on their predictions of 1964 events that they made at the end of 1963 ( E548 ). Bess goes along with the segment, and her guesses are revealed, even though she wasn’t on the panel the day they made their predictions.  The panel then makes similar predictions for 1965.  Among them, Kirby asks whether spacecraft Ranger 2 would successfully send back pictures from Mars.  He appears to mean Mariner 4, which had launched on November 28.  Mariner 4 would be successful.  The panel is also asked to predict the winner of the Clay-Liston rematch.  Betsy and Bess correctly pick Clay.  Henry makes reference to his new name of Muhammad Ali.

Twenty-five people found by the producers from area phone books are gathered on stage.  Their names in order make up the lyrics to “Auld Lang Syne” (1788).
Names, repeated when necessary, are Schold, Auld, (Mary) Ach, (Marion) Quaintance, Bee, Pforr, Gott, Ande, Neve, Brought, Tew, Mines, (Mr. and Mrs.) The Days, Of, Auld, Lang, Sine, Madeiras (for “my dears”), Weal, Tague, (Louis) Akop, Of, Kind, Ness and Yett.  (See also E365 , E518 , E670 )
