Sonia and Pedro Rissolo: “We traveled from Argentina to Canada
(15,000 miles)…on a bicycle built for two”
Pedro built
their conveyance himself, a quadricycle with a wooden box trailer up front to carry
their clothes and supplies. The
Rissolos, who speak little English, took volumes of notes and pictures for a
book Pedro plans to write about their experience, though there is no evidence
that work was ever published. Their
trip from Buenos Aires to Montreal took more than two years and four months to
complete.

Peanuts Taylor from Nassau, Bahamas enters with a conga drum: “I
can play melodies using only this drum”
Using five drums,
Taylor gives a virtuoso performance of the jazz classic “Caravan” (1936) backed
by Norman Paris and the gang. He then
takes one drum and, using his elbow to stretch the skin, taps out three simple
but recognizable tunes: “Mary Had a Little Lamb” (1830), “Yankee Doodle” (1755)
and “Jingle Bells” (1857). Berkley “Peanuts” Taylor recorded several albums in
the 1960s and appeared on some of the top American variety shows of the
day. Taylor continued to perform in his
native Nassau, where he owned nightclubs, into the 1980s.
