This Third Anniversary show is something of a family affair.

Audrey Meadows: “I’m going to play the first record Jayne and I ever made”
Audrey is the younger of the two sisters by a couple years or so.  As the daughters of missionaries, they both spent their early years in China.  Jayne was born there, while Audrey (by most accounts) was born in New York City when the family was back in America.  Without other English-speaking children in their early lives, the two became best friends, and Jayne encouraged her younger (and shyer) sister to join her in a show business career.

A donkey: “I'm going to let the panel play Pin the Tail on me"
Newspaper accounts of the children's game Pin the Tail on the Donkey date back to at least 1887, when it was known as the Donkey Party Game.  Some sources attribute its origins to rural Wisconsin, though period articles credit a Springfield, Massachusetts newspaper for spreading the word.

Steve Allen and Skitch Henderson: “We are going to destroy the set”
The destruction, in anticipation of a new set being built, turned out to be premature.  The new set wouldn’t be built for another three weeks.  The show had to improvise until the new set was ready, and even then, it wasn’t quite right. ( E143 )
