off-Broadway in a play with the unusual title Oh
Dad, Poor Dad, Mamma's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feelin' So Sad (1962) The show was a hit in its smaller
off-Broadway venue. Gingold would remain
with the play when it transferred to Broadway on August 27, where it ran only
47 performances before closing on October 5.
The play also marked the Broadway debut of a young Sam Waterston. A movie version would be released in 1967,
with Rosalind Russell in the lead role.
