Ronnie Robertson from Laguna Beach, California: “I can spin faster
than this fan is turning (420 RPM)”
Robertson is a
figure skater well known for his ability to spin rapidly on ice. He was a silver medalist in the 1956 Olympics
and is currently performing in the Ice Capades traveling show. The Ice Capades started in 1940, featuring
Olympic medalists and other champions who had retired from formal
competitions. Various Ice Capades tours
ran for fifty years before the popularity of such shows waned. The producers had intended to show Robertson
perform, but they could not get the ice to freeze under the hot studio lights
(see
E416
) and showed film instead.
