Ernest Joines from Sparta, North Carolina; Clayton Corson from
Bridgeton, New Jersey; Renz Jennings from Phoenix, Arizona: “We’re going to
play 17 instruments – all at the same time…Each of us is a one-man band”
The three are independent performers,
brought together by the show. They play
the Stephen Foster classic “Oh Susanna.”
Jennings is The Honorable Renz L Jennings, a justice on the Arizona
Supreme Court from 1960 until 1964.
Jennings would resign the bench in 1964 to run for US Senate,
specifically the seat held by Barry Goldwater, but lost in the Democratic
primary.
John Bohmann from Seguin, Texas: “I’ve been playing golf for 3
years…I’ve made 4 holes-in-one”
Mr. Bohmann is only 14 years old. All four of his aces were on the same hole, a
145-yard par 3 at the Seguin Municipal Course.
His accomplishment appeared in the April 24 issue of Sports Illustrated. He would later win amateur titles and would
participate (as an amateur) twice at The Masters. A lengthy profile in an April 1970 SI article
followed him through his second Masters appearance. He failed to make the cut either time.
Special Guest Merv Griffin simply
brings “problems” from his own daytime game show Play Your Hunch for the panel to solve. Bess’ daughter Barbara assists in one of the
segments. Play Your Hunch was an entertaining but simple guessing game which presented
contestants with elaborately staged setups that always left choices of X, Y or
Z, usually with little to go on except instinct. Griffin would go on to much greater fame as a
talk show host, and is perhaps even more remembered today as the creator of
both Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune.
