Harold Johnson from Philadelphia: “I fought Jersey Joe Walcott in 1950”
and his father Philip Johnson from Bayonne, New Jersey: “I fought Jersey Joe
Walcott in 1936”
Jersey Joe fought from 1930 until
1953, and held the world heavyweight title in 1951 and 1952. After retiring from boxing he became a
referee. He was in the ring for the
controversial “phantom punch” second fight between Muhammad Ali and Sonny
Liston in 1965. He never refereed
another match again. Harold Johnson
would hold the World Light Heavyweight title from 1962 to 1963. Walcott appears after the segment.
[Oswald, Suzanna, Cecelia, Marina Elena and Rebecca Moreno] from
Elmhurst, Long Island: “We’re all having our tonsils out tomorrow”
The family is from Ecuador originally,
and Rebecca translates for her younger siblings. The show gives the five youngsters Christmas
presents.
Special Guest Arthur Godfrey
Godfrey tests the
panelists on how much they remember about jobs they had before show
business. Bill was a mechanic in
Pittsburgh, Betsy was a private secretary, Henry was a waiter at a summer camp,
and Donna Reed grew up on a farm. They
all attempt to perform those earlier tasks.
Reed milks a cow live on stage. Secret would revisit this idea in 1962 (
E474
).
