Bill, Kathryn Grant, Henry, Bess

In her first appearance on the panel, Bess is introduced as the star of the daytime show The Big Payoff.  Grant is introduced as the star of The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958).  In 1957, Grant had married Bing Crosby.  The much younger actress (she was 23 to Crosby’s 53 when they wed) would eventually take his name professionally, but here and in a handful of 1959 performances, she was still using the last name Grant.

John Chernosky, Mort Minnich, Stanley Lepkowski and Paul Shipe: “This lady saved our lives during World War II”
“This lady” is Anne Brusselmans from Brussels, Belgium, seated with the four men.  As part of the Comet Escape Line, a sort of “underground railroad” for downed fighter pilots, Brusselmans helped sneak almost 200 American and Allied airmen out of Nazi-occupied Belgium.  Despite her heroics, in the 1980s she would become embroiled in bureaucratic red tape that prevented her from becoming a US citizen.  After her plight sparked national media coverage, President Ronald Reagan intervened and citizenship was granted.

Mrs. Evangeline Greene of Columbia, South Carolina: “I trapped the furs I’m wearing”
Mrs. Greene is 83 years old here.  She trapped the furs many years ago when she and her husband lived and adventured in British Columbia.  Mountains in that region are named for members of her family. Her husband, Dr. William Greene, was a pioneer aviator who died in 1952.

Special Guest Jackie Cooper
With the panel blindfolded, single-panel comics with their captions removed are projected on the wall behind Cooper.  He works punch lines to those comics into the answers he gives to the panel’s questions.   Gurney Williams, the humor editor for Look Magazine, selected comics for the show to use.
