Pianists Art Ferrante and Lou Teicher: “We can
play the Minute Waltz in less than a minute”
Twin piano performers Ferrante &
Teicher met at Juilliard in 1930 and have been performing together since 1947,
so they are already well known here.
Still, their greatest fame would come in the 60s and 70s, with a
seemingly endless parade of albums and concert performances showcasing their
“easy listening” arrangements of show tunes, movie themes, classical music and
even pop hits. Many of their light
covers became hits on the Billboard charts, often eclipsing the success of the
original recordings. Here, the duo also
performs “African Echoes” from their latest album.
Rev. George Stanford of Vicksburg, Michigan:
“My congregation celebrates Christmas on July 21”
Reverend Stanford leads the Vicksburg
First Methodist Church and started the tradition five years ago to protest the
commercialism that accompanies Christmas in December. By 1957, several other churches in the small
Michigan village had followed suit. By
1958, though, Rev Stanford would be reassigned, and the new pastor would put an
end to the July event. Part of his
reasoning was that the town was getting so much attention for their “Christmas in
July” that the event was becoming…too commercialized.
