Dean Thomas from Columbus, Ohio: “I delivered
the only baby gorilla ever born in captivity”
Colo the Gorilla was born at the
Columbus Zoo on December 22, 1956. Not
only was she the first gorilla born in captivity, but she would also become the
oldest gorilla in captivity, reaching the age of 60 before dying in 2017.

Mr. Ruel (he is known only by the one
name) is the styles director for Coiffures Americana, a chain of hair salons
located inside department stores across the country. The stores were popular from the mid 1950s through
the 1960s.
Special Guest George Gobel brought his writers
with him.
Writers Howard Leeds, Harry Winkler
and Everett Greenbaum are backstage watching the show and feeding Gobel funny
lines through an earpiece. All three men
would go on to write for such iconic sitcoms as The Brady Bunch (Leeds), The
Odd Couple (Winkler) and M*A*S*H (Greenbaum).
“Lonesome George” was an enormously popular TV comedy star in the 1950s
and 1960, both on his own show (1954-1960) and as a frequent guest on others. He would later become a long-time regular on
the game show The Hollywood Squares.
