Mrs. X: “My husband took Jayne Meadows to her
High School Senior Prom”
Jayne recognizes “Bob” (his last name
is lost in the confusion) as the brother of her best friend at boarding school. She hadn’t seen him since that event,
probably about twenty years ago.
Jane Patrick: “I am going to draft Elvis
Presley” (Chief of his Draft Board)
Miss Patrick’s Memphis accent delights
the panel and drew the attention of at least one southern newspaper columnist
who thought she was faking it. A denial
from Mark Goodson himself appeared in the paper a few weeks later. Elvis would be drafted on December 20th
and following a deferment that allowed him to finish the film King Creole (1958), reported for the
Army on March 24, 1958.
Special Guest Peter Lawford
With the host desk removed, Lawford
and March cross and re-cross their legs every time a panelist asks a
long-winded question. The London-born
Lawford was a successful film and television actor for decades. His off-screen life as a socialite would
become equally well known. In the early
60s he would become, among other things, a part of Frank Sinatra’s “Rat Pack”
and brother-in-law to John F Kennedy.
