Bill, Betsy Palmer, Henry, Faye
Betsy's first appearance on the show, years away from
becoming a regular. It’s also one of the
few times, if not the only time, that she and Faye were on the panel together.
Mr and Mrs William J Kline of South Bend,
Indiana: “We have more than 100 grandchildren”
This family photo of a television screen is quite possibly the
only existing image from this episode, which has never been rebroadcast. Family lore also provides us with the Kline secret. At the time of their appearance,
they had 104 grandchildren. Kristina Mason Rickert, a GREAT-grandchild of the Klines, provided us with this picture, and her permission to use it.
Special guest Bob Hope: "I once stole a joke from Milton Berle"
Hope famously had an
exclusive contract with NBC for 60 years, so this appearance on a rival network
would have been a little unusual, though he also made multiple appearances over the years on the CBS show What's My Line?. He appears here to plug his film The Seven Little Foys (1955), which opens on this very day in New York City. The film is best remembered today for a
lively dance sequence featuring Hope (as vaudevillian Eddie Foy) and James
Cagney (as George M Cohen) challenging each other on top of a long table.
Garry himself has a secret: "I once stole a whole act from Bob Hope"
Garry and Bob perform one of Hope's old vaudeville acts together.
