Inspector Robert Fabian: “I followed Jayne Meadows all day Saturday”
Until his retirement in 1949, Fabian had been Detective Superintendent of England's Metropolitan Police, more commonly known as Scotland Yard.  Fabian's second career was as a crime writer and celebrity.  He wrote the BBC TV series Fabian of the Yard (1954-56) which dealt with some of his cases.  He also appeared at the end of each episode explaining the true details behind the fictionalized cases that were dramatized each week.

Anthony White from Portland, Oregon: “I’m the US crocheting champion”
More specifically, White is the male champion.  A mailman by profession, he crochets for fun and also won the men's title in 1950 and 1952.  The female winner, a grandmother named Theresa Blum, also took the title of Grand National Champion.  The competition had taken place in New York the day before.

Special guest Charles Winninger: "I'm going to do a song I sang in 1895"
Winninger will appear in a TV version of The Philadelphia Story one week from tonight on CBS.  He became famous as "Cap'n Andy Hawks" from the musical Show Boat, a role he played in the original 1927 stage production, the 1932 revival, and the 1936 film version.  (Frequent Secret guest Joe E Brown played the role in the more famous 1951 movie.)  He was so identified with the role that he frequently played thinly-disguised versions of it in the years that followed, most notable when he starred as "Captain Henry" in the radio variety series The Maxwell House Show Boat (1932-1937).  As a Wisconsin youth (he was eleven years old in 1895) Winninger toured with his family, a popular Midwestern theatrical troupe.
