Unidentified male contestant: "I fainted three times during my wedding ceremony"
Wacky matrimony. According to one report, the unfortunate groom submitted his story to the Secret staff and waited more than two years before finally getting on. This is one of those stories that might have happened much longer ago even than that. Newspapers are full of human interest filler items like this one, but rarely do they include any detail.
Unidentified contestant: “I’m going to take my dental braces off
tonight (after 2 years)”
Hopefully with assistance from a licensed professional.
Special guest Adolphe Menjou: “I’m exchanging clothes with
Garry Moore”
Menjou may have been a last-minute substitution for this generic celebrity secret. Contemporary newspaper listings and advertisements say Kirk Douglas was to have been the special guest tonight. Despite the exotic name (his father was French), Menjou was an American actor who worked steadily from the silent era through the fifties, often in dignified upper-crust roles. In liberal Hollywood, his ultra-conservative political beliefs rankled some costars, notably Katherine Hepburn with whom he appeared in three films. The two barely spoke off camera.
With time remaining at the end of the program, Garry asks the panelists what books they are currently reading.
