Special guest George Burns has the simple secret that he
tells lies.
With the panel offstage he explains that he and Steve are just
going to lie during the questioning, which makes the game itself pointless but
does provide lots of laughs. Burns has nothing to plug but is on the cusp of
his remarkable late-in-life career resurgence.
At the age of 79, he would win an Oscar for his performance in the 1975
film The Sunshine Boys, in a role that was originally going to be played
by his old friend Jack Benny. Benny had died
the previous year. In 1977 he had a box
office hit playing the almighty in Oh, God!, the success of which led to
two less well-received sequels. Other
movie roles followed, as did sold-out concert and nightclub appearances. Burns remained in the public eye for more
than 75 years. He died in 1996, 49 days
after turning 100.
Steve Kilston from Venice, California: “I had a comet
named after me”
Kilston, a Harvard graduate studying for his doctorate at
UCLA, discovered the comet in 1966 while watching the skies at the Lick
Observatory in San Jose. Dr Kilston
would have a career as an aerospace engineer and astronomer, and today gives
lectures and presentations about our place in the universe.
