Guest Prasanna Rao is a practitioner
in the art of shadowgraphy, which is to say he makes shadow puppets with his
hands. Oddly, this is not presented as a
secret. We simply see a demonstration of
his talent, and he helps each of the panelists attempt to perform the art as
well. Rao would continue to ply his
unusual trade, mostly at puppetry festivals, into the 21st
century. Author George Mendoza would
publish a pictorial collection of Rao’s work as Shadowplay (Henry Holt 1974).
Virgil Quick from Newark, Ohio and [Curt] Fast from Columbus,
Ohio: “Mr. Speedy is a highway patrolman” and Robert Speedy from The Plains,
Ohio: “I gave Mr. Quick a ticket for driving too fast…I gave Mr. Fast a ticket
for driving too slow”
Fun with
names.
Special guest
Woody Allen has the panel try to identify words based on often hilarious definitions
collected from children aged five to seven.
Years later, this idea would be the central conceit behind the game show Child’s Play (1982-83) hosted by
Bill. Woody has written the play Don’t Drink the Water (1966-68),
currently running on Broadway.
