Marie Rhodes from Los Angeles: “I’m Marlon Brando’s stand-in”
Mrs. Rhodes’
husband Phillip is Brando’s personal make-up man, and she got the job
originally as an excuse for her to join her husband in Tahiti for the filming
of Mutiny on the Bounty (1962). Unlike stunt doubles or body doubles,
stand-ins do not appear on camera, and therefore do not have to resemble the
actor in for whom they’re standing, beyond basic height and build. Stand-ins literally stand in the position an
actor will take in a scene, while technical work such as lighting and camera
positioning takes place. Rhodes plugs
Brando’s upcoming movie Morituri (1965).
Lieutenant “Army”, Lieutenant “Navy”, Lieutenant “Air Force” and
Lieutenant “Marines”: “Each of us won an Olympic Gold Medal for the U.S.A.”
Lones Wigger (shooting), William Stowe
(rowing), Joe Amlong (rowing) and Billy Mills (10,000 meters) all won gold at
the Tokyo event in October, 1964. Stowe
and Amlong competed together in the “eights,” the eight-man (plus coxswain)
rowing team. Wigger would also win gold in Munich in 1972, and is today
considered one of the greatest competitive shooters in US history. Mills was a virtual unknown when he stunned
the world with his upset win. He remains
today the only American to win a gold medal in the 10,000 meter run. He is the subject of the 1983 movie Running Brave.
Special guest
Lucille Ball answers questions written in advance by members of the studio audience. The panelists in turn each tries to predict
what Lucy’s answer will be. Bette Davis
played a similar game with the panel the year before (
E561
). Panelist Gary Morton is Lucy’s current
husband. Lucy's sitcom The Lucy Show (1962-1968) is still going so strong that she doesn't even bother to promote it here. She does speak on behalf of the Easter Seals
Campaign, for which she is National Chairman.
