Philadelphia Eagles halfback Timmy Brown has been setting records
in the NFL, but his secret involves a different kind of record: “It’s a
phonograph record…I recorded a song called I’ve
Got a Secret”
Timmy Brown
played most of his nine-season career with the Eagles. That career included three Pro Bowl
appearances. He was the first of only
nine players in NFL history to return two kickoffs for touchdowns in the same
game. As Timothy Brown, he would pursue
an acting career after football, appearing in dozens of movies and TV
shows. He is probably best known for
playing surgeon (and former professional athlete) “Spearchucker” Jones in a
handful of early M*A*S*H TV episodes. Brown, who is recovering from
an injury here and using a cane, performs his song. It has nothing to do with
the television series. The panelists are
assigned to write their own songs called “I’ve Got a Secret”, which will be
performed on a later show.
Special guest Ray Walston brings a pumpkin to light: “The sound of
applause will light the pumpkin"
The show continues its Halloween tradition of lighting jack-o’-lanterns
in unusual ways. Representatives from
General Electric rigged a flashlight to respond to sound. Walston also
demonstrates an electrically charged paint (which costs $25,000 a gallon!) that
can also trigger the light. He later demonstrates some other science-based
trickery. Walston will star in the
upcoming motion picture Kiss Me, Stupid (1964), but is currently best known to television audiences as My Favorite Martian (1963-66). Walston would have a long, celebrated career
as a character actor on screen, on stage and on television.
