Brothers Wilbert and Lionel Kenny from Sudbury and Toronto,
Canada: “Our wives are sisters”
That’s just
the beginning of this wacky matrimony secret.
The brothers had separated from each other in 1939 and lost touch. The Doucette sisters, Ruby and Lillian, had
similarly lost touch after being orphaned as children. Remarkably, there is a third Kenny-Doucette
pairing, Gilbert and Agnes. All six are
eventually on stage together. Between
them, the three couples have eight children.
Special guest Julie Newmar brings a
“creativity kit” designed by a professor at Tufts University, consisting of simple
items like pencils, rubber bands, cardboard and tin foil. The panel had earlier been provided with such
kits, and each shows what they made with it.
Later, Newmar shows what the Tufts students designed with their
kits. Professor Percy Hill and three of
his students are recognized in the audience.
Hill, a design engineer, would later create the ergonomic Reach
toothbrush for DuPont. The statuesque
beauty Newmar is starring in the new CBS sitcom My Living Doll (1964-65), in which she plays a robot learning human
behaviors. The stage veteran and Tony
Award winner would later become better known to television audiences for her
periodic appearances as Catwoman on Batman (1966-68).
