Mr. X, Mr. Y and Mr. Z: “We just made the longest supersonic
flight in history…8028 miles non-stop in 8 hours 35 minutes”
Major Sidney J Kubesch, Major John
Barrett and Captain Gerard Williamson are in their Air Force uniforms, and the
panel is blindfolded. The October 16
flight from Tokyo to London made headlines and shattered all kinds of distance
and speed records. The flight over the
arctic was seen as demonstration of the capability and flexibility of the Air
Force, but also as a show of American military might in the midst of the Cold
War.
Special guest Art Linkletter separates
the panel by gender, and challenges each to remember what another on the other
side of a divider is wearing. Linkletter
has just released the record album “Where Did You Come From” (20th
Century Fox 1963), a basic guide to human reproduction aimed at children.
Michael Magid from Forest Hills, Queens: “I haven’t sung yet – I
haven’t danced yet…those were my brothers (we’re triplets)”
Each of the
other two segments were preceded by a different Magid boy (Dennis and Eddie)
starting into a song and dance, only to be interrupted and told he’d be on
later. The panel was led to believe they
were all three the same person. The
20-year-old Magid Triplets are a veteran dance act, having performed together
for more than ten years. They would
continue to be a popular lounge act for many years, making frequent appearances
alongside such stars as Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. They perform a brief dance as a trio here.
