Bill, Betsy, Henry, Bess

Betsy, who cut her hair short six months ago ( E498 ) for her role in South Pacific is about to open as Anna in The King and I at the Mineola Playhouse, and is wearing a wig because her hair was too short!

Harold Simmons from Miami, Florida: “I flew from Miami to the Bahama Islands…on a kite”
Garry says the trip is 55 miles, though the actual distance is closer to 155 miles.  The boat below actually did all the work, as Simmons glided behind it in an oversized kite.  It’s basically what we know today as parasailing, but the kite itself looks similar to a traditional children’s kite, just larger.

Special guest Horst Buchholz brings clips from earlier episodes, with the panelist voices dubbed into German, and they try to figure out what they were saying.   Buchholz provides the translations. Buchholz is a German-born internationally famous movie star whose films included The Magnificent Seven (1960) and One, Two, Three (1961).  His latest film is Nine Hours to Rama (1963).

Mr. X: “I’m going to hit 3 golf balls…with one swing”
Joe Kirkwood was an Australian golfer who played in the PGA Tour for decades, starting in 1920.  He had 13 wins on the Tour, which ranks him among the top 100 golfers of all time even today.  Kirkwood’s son would also become a professional golfer, and they are among the few father-son pairs to each have a Tour win.  Still, Kirkwood Sr became more famous in later life as a barnstorming trick shot artist and the “Clown Prince of Golf.”  He puts on a demonstration of some of his stunts here, with his humorous patter a big part of the entertainment.
