Bess, Henry, Joan Benny, Betsy

Joan is the adopted daughter of Jack Benny, tonight’s guest.  Decades later, she would write Sunday Night at Seven: The Jack Benny Story (Grand Central 1990) about her father.

Jack Dealy from Columbia, Tennessee: “These facts & dates are also true of my twin brother”
Garry has a timeline chart of very specific events in Jack’s life, including the fact that he was a bank teller, that he had appendicitis while a POW during World War Two, and that he married a woman he met on a blind date.  Jack’s brother Art appears.

John Masterson from New York City: “I burned over one million dollars today for the U.S. Treasury”
Jack Benny is on hand to overhear the secret, and leaves outraged.  Masterson is the chief of the Government Bond Division of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.  One of the responsibilities of the Federal Reserve is to take worn currency out of circulation and destroy it.

Special guest Jack Benny: “I have a taxi waiting…the meter is running”
The game is just an excuse for a variety of jokes about Benny’s famously miserly ways.  Starting February 27, Benny will star on Broadway in his own revue at the Ziegfeld Theatre.  The limited engagement would run until April 6.
