As he did last week, Garry plugs an
album of material from the routines of Carol Channing and George Burns in Las
Vegas, though that album was never released.
Sal Altieri from Yonkers, New York brings out an uncut sixty carat
diamond: “I’m going to smash it to bits”
Altieri works
for the Bulova Watch Company, and pulverizes diamonds as part of his job. The diamond powder is used in the manufacture
of electronic wrist watches. Channing,
who introduced the song “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” in the Broadway
show Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1949)
assists in the destruction of this one.
John Perry from Palm Beach, Florida arrived at the studio this
afternoon: “In a submarine…It’s parked backstage”
Perry
Submarine Builders was founded in 1956 and originally made small one and two
person subs used in oceanography and underwater research. The company greatly expanded over the years
and in 1969 would change its name to Perry Oceanographics. The company would provide the underwater car
used in the James Bond film The Spy Who
Loved Me (1977). Perry himself was
something of a 20th century Renaissance man. He was originally a newspaper publisher, and
in his later years would devote his efforts to the development of renewable
energy technologies and a global energy plan.
Special guest Boris Karloff has just
finished The Raven (1963) in which he
co-stars with fellow horror film veterans Vincent Price and Peter Lorre. He has brought publicity stills from the
picture, to which the panel tries to attach humorous captions. This is Karloff’s fourth and final appearance
on the show, starting with the very first episode in June, 1952.
