Bill, Betsy, Henry, Bess

For the first time, reruns, not prerecorded new shows, have taken up the summer months.  This is the 11th season premiere.

Mrs. Norman Low from Mission Hills, California, Mrs. John Berry from Tampa, Florida and Mrs. Nathan Allen from Birmingham, Alabama: “We were Miss America finalists…the year Bess Myerson won”
Bess was the pageant winner in 1945, when the three were known as Miss Minnesota Arlene Anderson (Low), Miss Florida Jeni Freeland (Barry) and Miss Birmingham Frances Dorn (Allen).  Oddly, some Miss America hopefuls in those early years represented cities rather than states.  Bess herself represented New York City in the pageant, while another contestant was the state’s representative. We get to see film from the 1945 pageant.

Lois Ann Frotten from West Yarmouth, Massachusetts: “I made my first parachute jump this summer…My chute didn’t open”
On July 19, Miss Frotten got tangled in her chute and plummeted for 2500 feet into Mystic Lake near Boston.  Dazed and hysteric according to reports, she suffered surprisingly minor injuries.

Garry shows a one minute film he and the panel made last June 25 to promote their move to an earlier time period beginning next week.  He then shows amusing bloopers and candid footage from the one hour recording session.  Starting September 17, Secret will be seen at 8pm Eastern.
