Bill, Betsy, Henry, Bess
James Miller from Fullerton, California: “I’m watching this show
on a television set”
The panelists
cannot see Miller’s face, which is hidden behind a cylinder, though they quickly figure out what he's doing. He is watching the show on an ‘Electrocular,’
a lightweight receiver worn on the head and viewed through a single transparent
eyepiece. The Electrocular was designed
by Hughes Aircraft for military and space exploration uses, and for any
situation which requires a person to focus on multiple things at a time. While the technology here is bulky and a
little primitive, head-mounted displays like the Electrocular are used today in
everything from medicine to aviation to videogaming.
Special guest Kim Novak: “I designed the dress Bess Myerson is
wearing…(and she doesn’t know it)”
Embarrassingly
for Bess, she complained to Novak before the show about the horrible dress she
had to wear. Novak is starring in two
movies, Boys Night Out (1962) and The Notorious Landlady (1962). In both films, she is credited with designing
her own wardrobe.
“Judy” from Thomasville, Georgia:
“I’m a professional bowler…My average score is 99”
Judy
is a chimpanzee. Her trainer Terry
Cline, Jr comes out and gives Judy a strangely serious pep talk before she goes
into her act on a makeshift alley on stage.
Staffer Pat McCormick works as the pin setter.
