Timothy Patrick O’Sullivan from Washington DC: “I personally
deliver the President’s pay check every month”
O’Sullivan is Chief of the Periodic
Payments branch of the Treasury Department.
In 1962, the president earned a salary of $100,000 a year. That amount would double in 1969 and double
again in 2001 to its current total of $400,000.
The original salary amount for George Washington in 1789 was $25,000.

Bill Jann from New York appears on the
show to purchase Henry’s 1925 Model T automobile, the one he acquired nearly a
year ago in a horse-trading stunt (
E432
).
Jann pays $3,000 for the car, but after Garry comically deducts the
show’s expenses, Henry is left with $148.70.
Jann, as it turns out, is vice-president of Hertz Rent-A-Car, one of the
show’s sponsors, and he intends to make the Model T available for rent in New
York City. Hertz started in 1918 with a
fleet of a dozen Model T Fords. Also,
the balance of the three thousand dollars will be donated to charity.
Special guest Douglas Fairbanks Jr presents various puzzles to challenge the panelists on how well they know each
other by identifying unusual personal items.
Bess is shown what the other three had for breakfast. Bill is shown remnants of his colleagues’
waste baskets. Betsy sees incoming and
outgoing telephone calls from the other panelists. Henry sees samples of letters received by his
fellow panelists.
