Bill, Betsy, Henry, Bess

Garry opens with a reference to a hot and muggy day brought on as a result of Hurricane Esther, which was passing New York on its way up the coast.  Esther was a powerful hurricane which caused many millions of dollars worth of damages along parts of the Atlantic seaboard, but was not directly responsible for any fatalities.

Garry shares photographs of Henry’s and Bess’ blind dates arranged by the computer the previous week.

Special guest Robert Young challenges the female panelists to create a composite picture of each of the male panelists using the Identikit device previously seen on the show a year earlier ( E404 ).  After years in the sitcom Father Knows Best (1954-1960), Young was about to star in the new series Window on Main Street (1961-1962), a show he also created and produced.  That show would fail after six months.  A few years later, Young would enjoy a comeback in Marcus Welby, M.D. (1969-1976).

Mauri Rose Sanders from Indianapolis, Indiana: “I’m going to sit on a flagpole in this studio…until next week’s show (Monday at 10:30PM)”
Even before the game starts, Garry explains that Mrs. Sanders is the female World Flagpole Sitting Champion, and talks about her previous experience in 1958-59.  She hunkered down in a small shack three feet square and six feet high, 71 feet off the ground, for seven months.  At the time it was the world record regardless of gender.  Mrs. Sanders’ stunt this time around is in part to publicize the new day and time for I’ve Got A Secret starting next week.
