Senga Niprut and her interpreter Harriet Hagman from Helsinki,
Finland: “I’m speaking English…backwards”
“Senga” is actually Agnes Turpin from
Baltimore, Marylandwho has the unusual mental dexterity to reverse words in
her head and sound them out phonetically.
The fake name is simply her name backwards. What made the Secret particularly tricky is
that Miss Hagman really was translating into Finnish so neither she nor Agnes
actually understood what the other was saying.
Though not mentioned on the show, Hagman has a couple of movie credits
from the 1930s.
[Mike Connelly] from Winnetka, Illinois: “I played an 18-hole
round of golf and…I shot two holes-in-one…I lost the game”
Special Guest Vivian Vance recreates
one of the classic moments of her I Love
Lucy TV series by putting the panel to work on an assembly line. Instead of chocolates, as in that classic
episode, the panel makes pretzels, and they compete against an automated
pretzel making machine. Vance, oddly, is
promoting Lucille Ball’s upcoming Broadway musical Wildcat (1960-1961). Wildcat would run for about six months,
with Lucy starring in all but the final week of its 171 performances.
