Five members of the New Orleans Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra:
“We play symphonic music on pop bottles”
Robert Rohe, who conducts the other
four, wrote “The Land of the Bottle” specifically for these unusual
instruments. Rohe wrote a special
composition (“Around and Around”) for this program, which the group
performs. Garry also arranges for them to
perform the Winston jingle.
Elphege Nadeau of Woonsocket, Rhode Island: “I wove the material
for all the clothes I’m wearing”
With his aluminum Hand-Skill Loom, a
construct of his own design, Nadeau made everything from his suit to his
underwear to his shoes. He spent many years marketing his loom, and trying to
drum up interest in what had become a lost art.
Special Guest Johnny Carson: I’m going to knock an apple off Garry
Moore’s head…with my bow and arrow”
Garry is safely behind protective
glass for the stunt, but Carson hits the apple perfectly. A feature story on this Secret with several
color photos appears in the August 22 issue of TV Guide. Carson is the host of Who Do You Trust? on ABC at the time of this appearance, still a
couple of years away from taking over The
Tonight Show from Jack Paar.
