Jean Mansfield and her father Frank Mansfield from Vineland, New
Jersey: “We’re going to play a song on these chimes…by shooting bullets at
them”
Frank Mansfield, who’s 72 years old
here, began performing his sharpshooting act in vaudeville early in the 20th
century. Eventually, it became a barnstorming
family act known as The Shooting Mansfields featuring wife Marie (who does not
appear in this segment) and daughter Jean.
Father and daughter perform My
Country ‘Tis Of Thee on the chimes, then Frank performs some trick shots on
his own.
Francisco Giusti of Philadelphia: “I was a contestant on ‘I’ve Got
A Secret (January 8, 1958)” and Velia Latare of Philadelphia: “I saw the show
and wrote him fan letter” and together “Now we’re engaged to be married”
Giusti and two pals drove from
Argentina to New York in a 1918 Chevy (
E268
).
The show gives the couple a honeymoon trip to Argentina. They are scheduled to be married on October
4.
Special guest Charles Coburn performs
his daily exercise regimen (including weightlifting, sit-ups and calisthenics) in
such a way that the panel, which is not blindfolded, can’t easily identify,
mostly with the aid of an attractive young model. The 82-year-old Coburn has completed shooting
in Spain on the film John Paul Jones (1959) in which he plays Benjamin Franklin.
Aside from a cameo as himself in the film Pepe (1960), that would be his final screen role.
