Garry the weatherman (and reporter): “It is snowing, and boy the strike is on, and things are miserable.”  Garry is referring to a subway workers strike which had started on December 9 and would cut subway service in half for eight days.

John John, Patrick Patrick and Thomas Thomas: “We live in Walla Walla”
Walla Walla, Washington is a small town (less than 25,000 in 1957) with an outsized cultural impact based solely on its unusual name.  For example, in the Three Stooges episode Cash and Carry (1937), the boys find a treasure map to Walla Walla.  It is a Native America name meaning “Place of Many Waters" as it is located at the confluence of the Snake and Columbia rivers.

Bob Woodhouse and Woody Jongeward, both from Arizona: “We flew a plane for 6 weeks without landing” (World endurance record) The two navy veterans set their endurance record flying around Arizona and California between September and October of 1949.  In the days before plane-to-plane refueling, they would get their fuel by flying within five feet of the ground and picking up the fuel from speeding automobiles matching their velocity.

Special Guest Fernando Lamas eats fortune cookies As he does so, Garry tries to work the fortunes into the conversation.
Garry refers to them specifically as “Chinese fortune cookies,” and treats them as though some viewers wouldn’t know what they are.  Today, of course the treats are commonly associated with Chinese restaurants in the United States, but the cookies are probably of Japanese origin and are not a tradition in China. Guest panelist Arlene Dahl is Mrs. Lamas and is expecting their baby in late January.  That son would grow up to be actor Lorenzo Lamas.
