The set is decorated spookily for this special Halloween edition. [Pat
Morella], seated in the audience, has carved pumpkins in the vague likenesses
of the panelists. The orange crates are
back to replace the desks, and special sound effects are used instead of the
buzzer.
[John Francis] from Merchantville, NJ: “I cut
Steve Allen’s throat (While shaving him)”
Mr. Francis runs a barbershop in
Philadelphia. While performing there in
a play called The Pink Elephant a few
years back, Steve dashed in to get a quick shave, and a fairly modest calamity
ensued. Steve brought The Pink Elephant to Broadway in
1953. It closed after five performances.
Special Guest Bud Collyer tests new Beat the Clock stunts with the panel.
After quickly dispensing with the
Secret part of the game (interrupted frequently by sound effects and other
distractions), Bud spends the rest of the half hour playing Beat the Clock with members of the
panel. Afterwards, Garry and Bud swap
home games.
The closing personal question is, “What in all this wide world frightens
you most?” Bill says bumblebees, Jayne
says snakes, Henry says poverty, and Faye says complacency and intolerance.
