Thirty children from Bowmanville, Ontario: "We all have the same foster parents"
These thirty represent some seventy children cared for over the past seven years by Bertha "Mom" Whyte and her husband Bert in their farm home. As is typical for stories like this, the show showers the Whytes and their young charges with gifts, which gleeful Canadian newspapers reported to include: two washing machines, two sewing machines, twelve baby cribs, "stacks and stacks" of diapers and massive piles of toys for the children. In addition to the small cash award from the game itself, the stagehands even took up a private collection and gave "Mom" another $54. In all, the estimated value of the haul was in excess of $10,000. In a show shortened by a five-minute political message, the Whytes and the kids were the only civilian contestants for the evening.
