[Jose Perez] of New York City: “I was just
brought in off the street by Garry Moore”
Garry opens the show wearing an
overcoat. With the panel sequestered in
their soundproof booth, he goes backstage and out into the night on 47th
Street, selecting an unsuspecting passer-by to be the first contestant. The 15-year-old Perez clearly enjoys the
experience.
Sgt. James Closson of Everett, MS: “My
parachute failed to open…”
and Private Leslie Smith of Cleveland, OH:
“…I caught him in mid-air”
The Fort Campbell, Kentucky
paratroopers were participating in a mass jump on January 11, 1956 when Sgt.
Closson’s chute failed to open, and Private Smith made his miraculous
catch. For his heroism, Smith was
promoted on the spot to Private First Class.
On the show, Garry reads a congratulatory telegram from Ohio governor
Frank Lausche. The show would feature a
second similar incident in 1961 (
E459
).
Special Guest Gregory Ratoff
Ratoff’s latest film is Abdullah’s Harem (1955). He is not only the star, but the producer and
director as well. For his game, he
secretly associates a filmmaking occupation (producer, actor, director, writer)
with each of the panelists, then answers each panelist, or avoids answering, as
if he was performing that role.
