Mrs Viola Pollum of
Brookville, Pennsylvania: "I am the National Rifle Champion"
In July, Mrs Pollum won the National Small Bore Rifle Championship at the
Goodyear Zeppelin Rifle Club near Akron, Ohio. She was the national
women's champion in 1953, and would win another national women's title in 1956,
but this win was for the overall national championship. She was the
first woman to win the overall title. She would remain competitive into
the sixties, and in 1970 would be part of the inaugural class of the Brookville
Area Hall of Fame.
