130     April 6, 1955
Bill, Jayne, Henry, Faye

Garry the weatherman: “Welcome…on a beautiful, beautiful spring night in New York City.” (It was raining.)

Wayne Wagonseller of Louie, TX: “I talked for 28 hours and 6 minutes without stopping.”
On April 1 (only five days earlier), Texas State Senator Wagonseller held the floor for more than a full day to successfully prevent a reduction in Texas license fees for busses, claiming the bill only helped make the bus companies richer.  It was considered at the time a national record for filibustering.  Wagonseller had made headlines for earlier filibustering efforts, but none at this length.

Virginia Meyer: “I own more than 1,000 Easter bonnets”
Mrs. Meyer is a fashion historian and who’s been collecting all kinds of unusual clothing items since she was seven years old.  She has hats that belonged to such notables as Sarah Bernhardt and Lillian Russell.  Several bonnets from her collection are rolled out for the panel (including the men) to try on. Mrs. Meyer’s collection had been profiled in the Saturday Evening Post.

Special Guest Fred Astaire: “I’m going to play the drums while Garry dances”
Astaire is joined by three musicians from Garry’s daytime variety show: Howard Smith (piano), Ernie Caceres (clarinet) and Trigger Alpert (bass). They perform Lady Be Good to Garry’s loose-limbed, comic moves.  Garry mentions Astaire’s film Daddy Long Legs (1955) which is about to open.

For the personal question, we learn what cute nicknames the panelists’ spouses have for them, including “Jaynie Bird” and “Faysie”
