Bill, Jayne, Henry, Faye
Dennis O'Keefe hosts
Four unidentified men: “We are landlords of Jayne, Bill, Henry & Faye”
Unidentified contestant: “I have a million dollars worth of diamonds
in my pocket.”
Special guest Charles Coburn : “I am going to give each
panelist a towel.”
Why? Honestly, we have no idea. Maybe it tied into a role Coburn played in his career.
Harvey Chapman from Los Angeles (and his creation, Garco): “I
invented the mechanical robot”
Chapman built the mechanical man out of discarded airplane parts for the Garrett Corporation (hence "gar-co"), an aerospace company based in LA. Standing five and a half feet tall and weighing 250 pounds, he looks like something straight out of a science fiction movie. Garco can do a variety of mechanical tricks, but only with the guidance of a human operator. He's basically a very elaborate electromechanical puppet. While his corporate overlords waxed poetic about all the ways Garco could improve society, in the end he was mostly a publicity machine. He made personal appearances at industry conventions and charity events, as well as on various TV shows. Those would include a notable visit with Walt Disney on a 1957 episode of The Wonderful World of Color. Prone to mechanical breakdowns, Garco had a relatively short lifespan. While a 1961 newspaper article says the robot is "not dead yet," that article is really the last meaningful reference to Garco in the present tense, and today his whereabouts and/or final resting place are unknown.
