Dennis O'Keefe hosts
O'Keefe was an actor who made many movies in the 1940s and, like so many other actors, transitioned to television in the 1950s while still making the occasional film. He had very limited experience as a host when he was tapped to cover five weeks of shows so Garry could take a summer vacation.
Garry’s barber (name unknown): “I’m going to give Dennis
O’Keefe a crewcut”
If you're going to fill in for Garry, you might as well look the part.
Fourteen unidentified men and women: “We are the entire
population of Dennis Mills, Penn”
Dennis Mills, such as it is, consists of four houses clustered around an old grist mill in East Central Pennsylvania. Even in 1954 the name was not really used anymore for the community, though it was once a railroad stop. Today the only thing to remind locals of the community that once existed there is a Dennis Mills Road.
Special guest Steve Allen: “Every time the panel gets
stuck singing, I get stuck with a pin”
Far more interesting than yet another lame celebrity secret, so common in these early years, is the fact that Steve and Jayne
would marry on July 31, just three days after this appearance. As two major showbiz figures of the day, their wedding made headlines.
