Unidentified contestant from New York: "I collect the panel's income tax"

Mrs Clara Buroff from Rahway, New Jersey: "I had five children in one year"
Wacky childbirth.  Mrs Buroff gave birth to twins Nancy and Diane on February 10, 1953.  She had triplets Peter, Jean and Joan on January 17, 1954.  The Buroffs also have two older children.  In May, her husband Nicholas would receive a $100 savings bond from the National Fathers Day Committee in recognition of his contributions.  True to the time period, many newspaper stories about the births fail to mention the mother's first name.

Special guest Jack Carson holds his breath during the questioning
More interesting than the secret itself was a fun stunt the show used for tonight's celebrity game.  Garry began by complaining that the show receives 75 to 85 letters per week from viewers thinking they would be good panelists, viewers who don't have any idea (says Garry) just how hard it is.  So for this game, the show selected four random people (two housewives, a Navy chaplain and a toy buyer) out of the studio audience, and had them play the game instead of the regular panel.  What the conscripted civilian panelists didn't know was that Jack Carson intended to hold his breath until each of them could ask him a question.  According to one newspaper report, to Garry's surprise, the amateurs had no trouble asking Mr. Carson pertinent questions, and the segment proceeded as smoothly as any other.  There is no record of how this demonstration of the apparent replaceability of the panel was received in Mark Goodson's office, but it's notable that this was never tried again with all four panelists.

Carson was a versatile actor and personality who found success in film, television and radio. He was often cast as the comic sidekick, but also turned in notable dramatic performances in such films as Mildred Pierce (1945) and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958).  He was also a popular host for various radio and television variety series.  His most unusual costar was probably Bugs Bunny.  The film My Dream is Yours (1949) features an extended dream sequence in which Carson and Doris Day (both wearing bunny costumes) sing and dance with the animated hare.
