Roy Lazer, a bottler at the Ballantine Brewery: “I defeated Jersey Joe Walcott”
“Jersey Joe” was a wildly popular boxer when boxing was wildly popular.  At the time of this Secret, he is the heavyweight champion of the world, and, at age 37, the oldest to that point to hold the title.  He would lose the title to Rocky Marciano just a month later.  “Jersey Joe” was hardly a dominant fighter.  His loss to Mr. Lazer back in 1938 was one of eighteen losses (against 51 wins) in his career.   On the show, it’s mentioned that Mr. Lazer also fought (but lost to) Joe Louis.

Martin Rafferty, a NYC policeman: “I became the father of triplets this week.”
Wacky childbirth.  The triplets were boys.

Special Guest Mischa Auer: “I used to be a lifeguard”
Russian-born Auer was a prolific actor with some 200 film credits from the 1930s through the 1960s.  Originally cast as a villain, he received an Oscar nomination 1936’s My Man Godfrey and thereafter played zany comedic roles in pictures large and small.

[Carl Siegel] of Philadelphia, PA: “I have a live snake in my pocket”
A boa constrictor, in fact, but a very small one.
