Mr. X:
“1952 Olympic swimming champion”
Hawaiian
swimmer Ford Konno not only won two golds and a silver at the 1952 Summer pics
in Helsinki, his time in the 1500m freestyle (the subject of the secret) was an
Olympic record. Garry is quick to point
out, “that was the day our team score went ahead of the Russian score,” because
that sort of thing was terribly important!
Konno would later marry a fellow Hawaiian 1952 swimming medalist.
Miss Daly from Brooklyn: “I’m going to marry
Tommy Manville”
The audience
erupts in amused glee when Corinne Daly’s secret is revealed, because Tommy
Manville was famous for one thing and one thing only: his multiple marriages. A multimillionaire heir who never worked,
Manville was married a total of 13 times to 11 different women. Manville had married wife #9 on July 10, but that marriage ended when she got a so-called “Mexican divorce” less than a month later. Daly, who was allegedly the reason behind wife #9's quicky divorce, just as quickly became identified as Manville's soon-to-be wife #10. However, that relationship also soured within a few weeks. While there are publicity
photos showing them together, Daly (then 24) and Manville (then 58) never wed.
Special Guest Wanda Hendrix: “I once took a
milk bath”
Wanda Hendrix was a tiny (5’2”)
kewpie-faced beauty whose early film roles in the 1940s held the promise of a
great career, but whose personal woes prevented that from happening. She married western star and real-life war
hero Audie Murphy in 1949, but that marriage ended a year later amid stories of
threatening behavior by Murphy and his struggles with what we now call
PTSD. Hendrix married twice more, both
times to wealthy businessmen, and effectively retired from films, though she
continued to make television appearances.
[Alita Clem] of Washington DC: “I lost 100
pounds”
