Mr. X: “I play jazz on the bagpipes”
Rufus Harley was inspired to learn the bagpipes after seeing a regiment perform during the JFK funeral procession in 1963.  He made his debut as a jazz bagpipe player in 1964, and has already released two albums, Bagpipe Blues (Atlantic 1965) and Scotch & Soul (Atlantic 1966).  He would continue to record and perform throughout his life, working alongside everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to The Roots. Here, he performs “Feeling Good” (1965).

Howard Goodrich from Oak Lawn, Illinois and his dog Fritz: “I’m wearing contact lenses…So is my dog”
The family optometrist fitted the dachshund with contacts after Goodrich noticed he wasn’t reacting to their presence unless they were close to him.  The show featured a beagle fitted with contact lenses in 1959 ( E351 ).

Special guest Lucille Ball has 100 members of the studio audience (50 men and 50 women) vote their opinions on various topics using electronic pushbutton devices that immediately tally the results.  The segment is mostly devoted to opinions on several “mod” fashions that are modeled on stage, including one by noted designer Rudi Gernreich. Ball is starring in the TV special “Lucy in London” on October 24.
