Klaus Baruch from Hamburg, Germany: “I gave John Lennon of the
Beatles a normal haircut”
During a break with The Beatles, Lennon
cut his familiar mop top for a role in Richard Lester’s film How I Won the War (1967). The haircut was such an international
sensation that even the slightly out-of-touch panel immediately knows the
secret. Lennon took to the round-rimmed “granny glasses” he wore for his movie
role so much that they would become an iconic look for the nearsighted
performer the rest of his life.
Long Islanders Harold Wupper from
Bellmore, Richard Mitsoda from West Hempstead and Sebastian DiRubba from
Copiague: “We’re on the same college football team”
The 5’1” DiRubba is dwarfed by the
6’3” Mitsoda and 6’6” Wupper. They all
play for C.W. Post College, today known as Long Island University Post. DiRubba, a soccer player from Italy, serves
as one of the team’s placekickers.
Special guest Soupy Sales presents the rock and roll band Tony and
the Tigers. The group performs before
Soupy reveals his secret: “I’m going to teach the panel to play like this.”
Members are Jon Pousette-Dart, John
Meredith, Tony Sales and Hunt Sales.
Tony and Hunt are Soupy’s sons, and though it’s not mentioned, John is
the son of actor Burgess Meredith. Though barely teenagers here, the Sales
brothers and Dart would go on to have notable musical careers. Our regulars attempt to perform as “Steve and
the Secrets.” Soupy is starring in the
film Birds Do It (1966).
