Carol Channing, Bill, Bess, Henry
Alan Ross, Hal McKusick and John Peper: “We’re going to play the
world’s largest saxophone…it takes three men to play it”
These three
are the saxophone section of Norman Paris’ band. Like most of the musicians in the band, they
work for the network, and provide their services for whatever show might need
them. The instrument appears to be about
twelve feet tall and takes one to blow into the mouthpiece and the other two to
operate the keys. They perform “When the
Saints Go Marching In” (1923) backed by the rest of the band.
Hollis Lane from Vincennes, Indiana is the city’s dogcatcher, and
recently: “I was bitten…by a little boy who was guarding the dog”
This happened
on June 16 and was the sort of human-interest item that quickly spread in
newspapers across the country, though there was little more to the story than
that.
Special guest Arthur Godfrey answers
questions from the audience, but before he does, the panel predicts how he will
answer. This is the third time the show
has gone this route. Earlier subjects
were Bette Davis and Lucille Ball.
Godfrey will be appearing in a rare film role in The Glass Bottom Boat (1966) starring Doris Day.
