Mr. X from Salisbury, England, who is seated with 23 hardback
books: “I wrote all these books in one year…I am the author of 450 full-length
books”
John Creasey
is a staggeringly prolific author who used dozens of pseudonyms and about as
many different publishers in his long career.
He says here that he collected 743 rejection slips before publishing
anything at all. He would ultimately write
more than six hundred works, mostly mysteries but also westerns and even
romance novels. He was so busy that publishers could not keep up with his
output. More than a dozen of his later
works would be released posthumously after his death in 1973. Here, two long
library shelves are wheeled out showing Creasey’s output to date.
Anthony Sini (a dentist) and Milka Obreshkow were dining together
at a restaurant. Sini: “I got a
toothache” and Obreshkow: “I pulled his tooth”
While it’s
initially implied that the extraction happened at the restaurant, the two
actually went to Dr. Sini’s office where he talked his friend through the
procedure using his instruments.
Special guest Peter Lawford locked the panel’s earrings and
watches into a multi-layer safe: “An escape artist will return the jewels…He’s
already inside the safe”
The escape
artist is James Randi. Lawford refers to him as “The Great Randi,” though he became
more famous under a different adjective.
“The Amazing Randi” had a long career as a stage magician and
escapologist, but, especially in his later years, he became just as well known
for his science-based efforts to debunk any serious claims of supernatural
ability. Generations who knew the elder
Randi and his long white beard from his frequent talk show appearances would
have a hard time recognizing the lithe young man with a smartly trimmed goatee
who performs here. (See also
