Bill, Betsy, Henry, Bess
[Aileen Hall] from Richmond, Virginia and Judge Samuel T Binns Jr
of the Henrico County Court share a complicated secret.
Mrs. Hall, a schoolteacher, had Judge
Binns as a student 38 years ago, and: “I once made him write: “I will not talk
in class” (50 times).” Years later: “I
got a ticket for speeding.” Judge Binns’ part of the secret: “I sentenced her
to write “I shall try not to exceed the speed limit” (100 times).” This sentencing, which also included a $10
fine, took place in May, 1963.
Charles Pomerantz from New York City: “Scientists have named a
species of insect after me…Shannonomyia Pomerantzi (Crane Fly)”
Mr. Pomerantz is president of the Bell
Exterminating Company, as well as a self-trained entomologist. Back in 1946, he identified the mites that
were causing a mysterious sickness in Queens, NY. With his help, US public health officials
recognized a new disease named ‘rickettsialpox.’ Pomerantz has been honored several times by
scientists, with several varieties of insects that bear his name. In addition to his other work, he gives
lectures about the dangers of insect pests and about insect phobias.
Special guest Jonathan Winters plays a
game featuring the same young woman from Iceland who couldn’t pick Garry Moore
from two imposters a few months earlier (
E542
). This time, each panelist interviews Winters,
and for three of the interviews, he pretends to be other famous people (Casey
Stengel, Salvador Dali and fashion designer Oleg Cassini). This time, the young woman is able to
correctly identify Winters. Winters will
star in the TV special A Wild Winters’
Night on February 20 on NBC.
