William O’Sullivan from Hampton, Virginia brings a small satchel
which contains: “An earth satellite”
Mr.
O’Sullivan is a civilian scientist working for NASA who came up with the idea
of inflatable satellites that would launch as a small package then expand in
space. His large Echo I satellite
balloon launched on August 12, 1960 and stayed in orbit eight years. The example he brings to the show is of the
smaller Explorer 9, which launched on February 16 and stayed in orbit for about
three years. A replica of Explorer 9,
quite possibly the model used on this show, is at the Smithsonian National Air
and Space Museum today.
Benjamin Emenheiser from Garrison, Maryland and Philip Axman from
Baltimore, Maryland: “We were your teachers in high school.” Also, Emenheiser: “I flunked you in History”
and Axman: “I flunked you in Gym.”
A reunion for
Garry, who has admitted often that he was a class clown and not a good
student. Garry attended high school in
the mid 1930s at a facility known, confusingly, as Baltimore City College.
Special Guest Anna Maria Alberghetti has
the panel give instructions for common activities (tying a tie, wrapping a
package, diapering a baby) but without using their hands to describe how to do
it. Alberghetti is an Italian-born singer and actress known in the 50s and 60s
for her numerous TV appearances. More than 50 such appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show made her a
household name. She was also known for
her live work in nightclubs and touring musicals. Here, she is about to make her Broadway debut
in Carnival (1961-1963) which would
open on April 13. She would win a Tony
Award for her performance, but it would be her only Broadway role.
