George Pernicano from San Diego, California: “I have a man at the
end of this rope…his moustache is longer than mine”
Pernicano’s handlebar measures 15
inches from tip to tip. The restaurateur
had it insured by Lloyd’s of London for $50,000. Johnny
Todd has a moustache that measures nearly 20 inches. Pernicano would later be a minority owner and
longtime fixture at San Diego Chargers football games. Nicknamed “Mr. Charger”, he’s even enshrined
in the Chargers Hall of Fame.
Jacob S Schneider from New York City: “I own the world’s largest
collection of phonograph records (450,000 records)”
Schneider’s collection was revered
among collectors, and he appears to have been willing to part with much of
it. In 1970, he would be down to a mere
350,000. At one point, he stored his
collection in an unused hotel ballroom. Garry
plays recordings from Schneider’s collection for the panel to identify. The voices include Rudolph Valentino, George
Bernard Shaw, Tallulah Bankhead, Sarah Bernhardt, Walter Pidgeon, Theodore
Roosevelt, Lillian Russell and Gloria Swanson.
Special Guest Fred MacMurray is
celebrating the sixth anniversary of his first appearance on the show by
passing candy out to members of the studio audience. His actual Secret is that the panel will participate
in a taffy pull. MacMurray is promoting
his upcoming appearance on the US Steel Hour in a comic spoof called The American Cowboy on February 10,
1960.
