Bill, Jayne, Henry, Betsy
Garry and the panel are dressed in
cowboy getups and seated on a saloon set for “I’ve Got An Adult Western
Secret.” They call it ‘Adult Western’ to
presumably distinguish it from kiddie fare, but it’s all still quite ridiculous
and clichéd by today’s standards.
Seated together on the set are
Angeline LaPointe, who is the granddaughter of Sitting Bull, and a US Army
Colonel “X” who is related to General Custer.
LaPointe’s son Ernie, the great-grandson of Sitting Bull, is a Native
American author and public speaker, and the subject of the documentary film Sitting Bull’s Voice (2013). Though Colonel X is never identified by name,
he is probably George Armstrong Custer III, the great grand-nephew of the
famously doomed general. The latter
Custer spent a great deal of his life defending the family name and opposing
efforts to rename Custer Battlefield National Monument to Little Bighorn
National Battlefield Park.
Rod Redwing from California: “I teach movie cowboys how to draw
and shoot”
Mr. Redwing rattles off a long list of
TV and movie cowboys he has taught, including The Cicso Kid, The Lone Ranger,
Tonto, Annie Oakley, Wild Bill Hickok and many more. He is working with Marlon Brando for an
upcoming western.
Jason Betzinez from Apache, Oklahoma
is a cousin of Geronimo.
Though the specific relationship is
not mentioned on the show, Garry does mention that Betzinez fought alongside
the Apache chief for a couple of years.
Betzinez, who is 99 years old at this appearance, wrote I Fought With Geronimo (Stackpole 1959).
Master X: “I’m Henry Morgan’s second cousin (And he doesn’t know
it)”
Young [Dennis Fisher] is also in full
cowboy dress like everybody else.
Special Guest Roy Rogers: “I challenge the panel to a horse
race…On hobby horses”
Rogers appears looking incongruously
dapper with a suit, hat and cane, and a carnation in his lapel. This utterly delights Garry, who had
rehearsed with Rogers in his western garb and is surprised by the wardrobe
change. Rogers is performing at Madison Square Garden with the rodeo there.
